OPT travel questions are rarely about one document. A safer review usually includes your passport, F-1 visa unless visa-exempt, current I-20 travel signature, EAD status, employment evidence, USCIS case history, and unemployment-day position. If one piece is weak, the whole plan may need DSO review.
Pending OPT travel is especially sensitive because the I-765 may be approved, delayed, denied, or interrupted by an RFE while you are abroad. Travel after approval but before the physical EAD arrives has a different risk profile: the case may be approved, but the practical document you need may still be in production or delivery.

Before you book travel
Check whether your EAD is approved and physically in hand, your passport is valid, your F-1 visa is valid unless you are visa-exempt, your I-20 travel signature is current, and your job evidence matches your OPT or STEM OPT record. If your case is pending, ask what happens if USCIS issues a notice while you are abroad.
Also check unemployment days. A student with plenty of remaining days and a flexible employer has a different risk picture than a student close to the limit or waiting for a card before a firm start date.
